Detailed Privacy Policy

1. Controller, scope, and definitions

This Privacy Policy applies to the Pekoe mobile application, this website, and voluntary support correspondence (together, the “Service”). For any personal data processed through support correspondence, the data controller is the Pekoe application provider identified as the seller or developer on the applicable App Store product page (“Pekoe,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). You can reach us through Pekoe Support or at hello@pekoe.app.

“Personal data” means information that identifies or can reasonably be linked to a person. “Processing” means any operation performed on personal data, such as collecting, storing, consulting, or deleting it. These terms are used in the sense given to them by applicable privacy law, including the GDPR where it applies.

2. Data processed locally in the app

Pekoe lets you create a tea library, brew history, recipes, tasting notes, and journal entries. In the current release, this content is stored locally in the app’s on-device storage solely to provide the library, timer, history, and journal functions. It is not transmitted to a Pekoe server, account system, analytics platform, advertising platform, or cloud-processing service.

Because we do not receive this local content, we cannot access, profile, sell, rent, share, retain, or restore it. Local data processing occurs under your control on your device.

3. Support correspondence

The Support form is a mail composer, not a web form with a backend. When you press “Create support email,” your device opens your selected email application with a pre-filled draft addressed to hello@pekoe.app. This website does not receive the form fields and no email is sent unless you choose to send it from your mail application.

If you send us an email, we may process the information you provide, which can include your email address, selected support topic, device or iOS version, and message content. We use this information only to respond to, investigate, and maintain a record of your support request. Where the GDPR applies, this processing is based on our legitimate interest in providing support and, where relevant, taking steps at your request in connection with a service relationship (Articles 6(1)(f) and 6(1)(b) GDPR).

4. Notifications

If you choose to allow notifications, Pekoe uses Apple’s local notification system to alert you when a brew timer has ended. The notification can include the tea name you selected. This is a device-local notification; Pekoe does not send the notification content through its own server.

You may grant, refuse, or withdraw notification permission at any time in Settings → Notifications → Pekoe. Where consent is the applicable legal basis, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.

5. Maps and external Apple services

Pekoe can display reference maps for tea regions through Apple MapKit. The app does not request or use your precise location. Pekoe does not receive map-request data. Apple may process limited technical information when its services are used under its own terms and Privacy Policy; we do not control that independent processing.

6. No tracking, sale, or behavioural advertising

Pekoe does not use tracking as that term is used by Apple’s App Tracking Transparency framework. We do not combine data with third-party data for advertising or advertising measurement, share data with data brokers, sell or rent personal data, serve behavioural advertising, or use an analytics SDK in the current app release.

The current release has no account provider, payment processor, social feed, advertising network, or cloud-processing vendor. If that changes, we will update this Policy and the App Store privacy disclosures before or with the relevant release.

7. Recipients and international transfers

We do not disclose local Pekoe content to third parties because we do not receive it. If you choose to email Support, the recipient is the Pekoe support mailbox. Your email provider independently processes the email according to its own terms and privacy policy. Apple independently provides the system services described above.

We do not intentionally transfer local tea content internationally because that content does not leave your device through Pekoe. Any transfer inherent in email or Apple service use is governed by the relevant provider’s safeguards and policies.

8. Retention and deletion

Your local tea content remains on your device until you remove it or delete the app. Because we do not hold a remote copy, there is no Pekoe account to close and no remote tea-library record for us to delete. You can remove individual items where the app provides that control. To erase local Pekoe data entirely, delete the app using iOS’ normal app-removal process.

Support emails are retained only for as long as reasonably necessary to resolve the request, maintain appropriate support records, meet legal obligations, or establish, exercise, or defend legal claims. We aim to delete or anonymise resolved support correspondence within 24 months unless a longer period is required or justified by law.

9. Your privacy rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or port personal data, and to withdraw consent. These rights generally apply to personal data a controller holds. Because we do not receive your local tea content, we cannot access or export it for you; you control it directly on your device.

For support correspondence, you can make a rights request through Support. We may need to verify your request before acting. You may also have the right to complain to the data-protection authority in your usual place of residence, work, or alleged infringement.

10. Security

We design Pekoe so the core tea content remains local, reducing the amount of information we can access. No transmission or storage system is perfectly secure, however. Please protect your device and email account with the security controls available to you.

11. Children

Pekoe does not knowingly collect personal data from children through the app. The app provides no account, social feature, behavioural advertising, or in-app payment in the current release. If you believe a child has sent us personal information through Support, contact us and we will address the request in accordance with applicable law.

12. Changes to this Policy

We may amend this Policy when our data practices, legal obligations, or the Service change. We will publish the revised version here and update the “Last updated” date. Material changes, such as adding accounts, cloud sync, analytics, advertising, payment, new permissions, or a new data recipient, will be reflected in the policy and App Store privacy information before or with the relevant app release.
